Most of the time Foreigner has no original Foreigner members in it.”īack in 2007, Lou Gramm told us the chance to be part of Foreigner once again after all the bandmembers have been through meant the world to him: “The lifespan of most bands when Foreigner started was half-a-dozen years, or maybe a little more, and, y'know, there weren't that many reunion tours or things like that going on. And I heard that he comes out for one song now - when he comes on. He had some heart problems and his recovery time was very long and tedious. But then he was in the hospital again for weeks. (In the recent past) he would play the whole last half of the set. I think when the new Foreigner plays, I've heard that he comes on for one song and then waves and goes offstage. Two original members of the six are now gone. Well, (guitarist) Ian (McDonald) has passed away and (bassist) Ed Gagliardi passed away, even though he wasn't part of the reunions. Regarding him being done with any future special appearances with Foreigner, Lou Gramm admitted, “I think so, yeah. But let his own influences show - show the fans that he's the new singer now, not me.” He went on to say, “I don't think he should sing the songs verbatim like me. You're a singer with a big band like that - use your voice and your style. Some people say, 'Well, take it as a compliment, Lou.' I don't take it as a compliment. His voice doesn't sound like me, but he's singing the songs the way I would sing them. But I think Mick really told Kelly, when he first got in the band, that he had to study me, because he sings those songs with the same musical innuendos and vocal licks and ad-libs as I have. Over the past few years, Gramm and co-founder and leader Mick Jones have made peace, with Gramm and the original members of the band joining the current lineup for a string of special dates - but now Gramm isn't holding back on how he feels about the latest incarnation of the band.īlabbermouth transcribed some of Gramm's recent chat with, in which he spoke very candidly about the band's current frontman, Kelly Hansen: “Kelly is all right. There are an additional 100 tickets available for just the VIB event. It seems as though the love fest between ex- Foreigner frontman Lou Gramm and his former band is over and done with. There are 28 premier tickets, which include admission to both the VIB event at Broad Leaf and the sold-out concert on Aug. I can’t wait to pour one for him.” Tickets “It is only available at our two locations, so it is as local as it gets. “I understand Michael loves Pilsner beer and our Cult Pils is one of the beers we are most proud of from our new brewery,” Spaulding said. “We always ask bartenders, ‘Do you have anything local on tap?’ That’s the first thing we always ask.”īroad Leaf Local Beer Co-owner Jason Spaulding said he “grew up listening to their songs and having a chance to share a beer with these guys is a brewer’s dream come true.” “Michael and I especially try to get out and see what craft beers are being made in the area,” Watson said. The English-American band Foreigner is known for some of rock-and-roll’s most enduring anthems, including “Juke Box Hero,” “Waiting For A Girl Like You,” “I Want To Know What Love Is” and more.īluestein and Watson are big fans of beer and love to try local brews in the towns they visit. The evening is billed as a VIB, or very important beer, event where attendees can “enjoy a beer with the band members” and pose for photographs. for a ticketed event ahead of the band’s sold-out concert at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. The newly opened Broad Leaf Local Beer, an offshoot of Brewery Vivant in Grand Rapids’ East Hills neighborhood, will welcome Bluestein and Watson on Aug. Michael Bluestein and Bruce Watson - part of the seven-member band Foreigner - will stop at a Kentwood brewery to try local beer, meet fans and play a short acoustic set. Classic rock and craft beer know what love is.
